Description of Programme
This tour ""Vibrant Community Vibrant Economy"" tour examines two distinct yet interconnected threads of Singapore society; the evolution of the Singaporean identity, seen from a Chinese Singaporean perspective, and the bold, hard-charging and relentless pursuit of excellence, seen in the foundation, the work and successes of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
We explore the evolution of the Chinese Singaporean with its own distinctive identity and characteristics. Like the descendants of other immigrants that have settled in Singapore, the early Chinese helped form the identity of the Singaporean, unique and distinctive and confidently taking root.
Spread over two storeys and 6 zones, the MAS Gallery features more than 30 multimedia exhibits and offers an immersive tour into the multiple roles MAS plays in the Singapore economy and financial sector and how Singapore’s economy has changed over the years.
Specific Learning Points
• Through a difficult process of nation building, the Chinese Singaporean has emerged as a distinct person with a thoroughly Singaporean DNA. Though young as a nation, the melding of one people together from the descendants of many peoples is slowly taking root.
• Multi-racial, multilingual and multi-religious values are starting to mark out the Singaporean citizen. Singapore’s continuing vulnerability along racial fault lines remain a danger.
• Singapore’s future development lie in meritocracy and excellence, evidenced by the achievements seen at the MAS Gallery.
