Description of Programme
Following suggestions by some of the participating units who were not too sure about the why, where and how of some celebrations by different communities, we have added this Virtual Experiences that explains origin, reasons and ways the communities are celebrating them.
In Singapore, the festival is observed throughout the entire seventh lunar month. During this period, many Chinese worship their ancestors and make offerings to wandering souls that roam the earth.
Participants expressed their interest to understand more of the celebrations that are not Public Holidays but still play a vital role in the different communities in Singapore. Units can choose 3 festivals for the Virtual Activity – we are open to requests to add festivals not on the list!
- Thaipusam [Jan/Feb]
- Pongal [Jan/Feb]
- Vesakhi [13 April 2021]
- Vesak [May]
- Hari Raya Haji [July]
- Hungry Ghost Festival [Aug/Sept]
