What is Friends of SDC?
Friends of SDC is a new volunteerism initiative started by Singapore Discovery Centre.
Why was Friends of SDC initiated?
The conversation to build and grow the spirit of active citizenry in Singapore has grown exponentially in recent years with more Singaporeans finding new ways to contribute time and effort to causes they are passionate about.
Singapore Discovery Centre is doing its part to lead and steer this active citizenry spirit by introducing its very own volunteerism programme – Friends of SDC – which will offer a variety of volunteering opportunities at varying commitment levels.

Who is eligible to sign up as Friends of SDC?
Anyone who is passionate about doing their part for Singapore! Training will be provided for all confirmed Friends of SDC so there is no need to worry about not having the relevant content knowledge or skills you will need to perform your role.
Is there any minimum age requirement to be a Friend of SDC?
The minimum age requirement is 15 years of age.

What are the available volunteering opportunities?
We are looking for Volunteer Guides who are passionate about eco-sustainability issues and Singapore’s history and defence to conduct the One Planet, One Home Eco Tour and/or the Defence Through the Ages Guided Tour.
If you prefer to engage guests at our exhibitions in a more casual way, consider joining us as an Exhibition Volunteer to engage our guests in the exhibits, interactives and games and share with them interesting stories that you might have.
Singapore Discovery Centre also runs various events throughout the year and we are looking for volunteers to help us out at some of our events.

What is the commitment period for Friends of SDC?
Friends of SDC are encouraged to commit to at least 24 hours of volunteer work at SDC within a year of joining as a Friend of SDC.

Yes! We are working on more volunteering opportunities for passionate Singaporeans. Details of these volunteering opportunities will be updated on our website once they are ready. Am I confirmed as a Friend of SDC as soon as I register my interest?
As a Friend of SDC, you will be performing very specific roles that will allow you to engage our guests in deep and meaningful ways. As such, we will need to be meticulous in our selection of volunteers and in the matching of volunteers to the right volunteering opportunities. There will be a selection and matching process after you have registered your interest. You will be informed when you have been successfully confirmed as a Friend of SDC.
Would training be provided?
Yes, training will be conducted to equip all our volunteers with the knowledge and skillsets of the volunteering roles.
What are the benefits of being a Friend of SDC?
After clocking a minimum of 24 hours of volunteer work at SDC within a year of being a Friend of SDC, you would receive a complimentary 1-year SDC Adventurer Membership. Friends of SDC would also be invited to exclusive SDC events, training sessions and workshops.
Who is entitled to the benefits of being a Friend of SDC?
Volunteers who clocked a minimum of 24 hours of volunteer work at SDC within a year of being a Friend of SDC would be able to enjoy the benefits.
Why are benefits given for being a Friend of SDC?
While no amount of compensation is able to make up to the commitment and dedication of our volunteers, we would like to show our appreciation for the hard work and contributions made by our Friends of SDC.
What is the Adventurer Membership?
The Adventurer Membership is Singapore Discovery Centre’s exclusive loyalty programme which rewards members with free admissions to its attractions and discounts to SDC attractions and amenities. You may visit the Adventurer Membership webpage for more information.
What are the SDC events which I could attend?
An annual Friends of SDC Appreciation Ceremony would be held to reward and show our appreciation for our volunteers. Volunteers will also receive exclusive invites to special events like attraction and programme previews, and SDC carnivals.
What are the training opportunities and workshops?
Friends of SDC would be invited to in-house training sessions, team bonding workshops, as well as learning journeys and tours.
What are the referral benefits?
For every successful referee, the referer will add 2 hours of volunteer work to his/her timesheet and receive SDC vouchers.
